FONS VITAE

FOUNTAIN OF LIFE

“In You is the fountain of life; in Your light do we see light” (Ps. 36:9).

Our Latin motto, fons vitae, means fountain of life.  We believe Christ is the fountainhead of wisdom and creation.  “In the beginning was the Word…and the Word was God Himself” (Jn. 1:1).  “For by Him all things were created” (Col. 1:16). See also Proverbs 8.

Jesus—the living Word—is not a philosophy.  At the same time, the written word is filled with wisdom for the ages.  Ezekiel 44:23 states: “…teach my people the difference between the holy and the profane…”  HU emphasizes ethics, morality, freedom, and the rule of law as the biblical bedrocks of Western culture.

We believe all truth is God’s truth and education metamorphoses into understanding through life in Christ: “In Him was life, and the life was the light of men” (Jn. 1:4).  We teach a wide range of subjects in the liberal arts so students can learn any skill and think constructively.

We are nondenominational in affiliation and strive to teach the sound tenets that are common to most evangelicals and others within the wider Christian community.  We are missional in approach, meaning students are welcome from all walks of life to learn and grow with us.  God’s truth is for everyone, and our prayer is that seeking hearts would find faith and solace at HU.

“Christianity has not, and does not profess to have, a detailed political programme for applying ‘Do as you would be done by’ to a particular society at a particular moment. It could not have. It is meant for all men at all times and the particular programme which suited one place or time would not suit another. And, anyhow, that is not how Christianity works. When it tells you to feed the hungry it does not give you lessons in cookery. When it tells you to read the Scriptures it does not give you lessons in Hebrew and Greek, or even in English grammar. It was never intended to replace or supersede the ordinary human arts and sciences: it is rather a director which will set them all to the right jobs, and a source of energy which will give them all new life, if only they will put themselves at its disposal.” – Mere Christianity

ABRAHAM LINCOLN

“In regard to this Great Book, I have but to say, it is the best gift God has given to man. All the good the Savior gave to the world was communicated through this book. But for it we could not know right from wrong. All things most desirable for man’s welfare, here and hereafter, are to be found portrayed in it.”
